Stupa

The big Stupa in our garden is a replica of the exact size of the stupas found on the top levels of Borobudur. The design of this Stupa is said to be of Indian origin.

Traditionally Stupas are found all through the East and originally had the cremation ash or relics of the Buddha or Saints buried beneath them.

In our Stupa you will note that there is a figure of the Buddha sitting inside, facing north. This is to remind us that we are disseminating Buddhism northwards through the continent of Africa.

On the outskirts of the Meditation Retreat Centre, situated 1.5 ms behind the Guesthouse, there are 14 such Stupas.
