The Transfer of Merits chant followed and added to the holistic, universal energy of peace and well-being.
The Venerable Yi Chun shared the 2013 New Year’s message, which was translated by a BLIA (Buddha’s Light International Association) volunteer for the benefit of the English-speaking followers. Her message described how living a life of virtue and wisdom are comparable to the two wings of a bird. You need both to be able to fly. She also explained the concepts of virtuosity and wisdom and the elements that embody these assets. Venerable Yi Chun furthermore described how all sentient beings should live in harmony.
Attendees were also presented with the opportunity of purchasing a balloon to which a special wish and prayer could be attached. This year saw Nan Hua Temple investing in LED light balloons and the prayer and special messages were written on biodegradable paper.
After the ceremony, a special prayer by the Abbott blessed all the New Year’s wishes and prayers attached to the balloons, which were released in a flurry of hope and faith at midnight. The releasing of the balloons and special messages were followed by an awe-inspiring fireworks event which lit up the clear sky and painted beautiful scenes of sparkles in a myriad of colours.
FGS Nan Hua Temple would like to thank all those who attended as well as the BLIA volunteers, YAD youth group and temple staff and devotees for their assistance during the event. A special thank you to the Representative of the Taipei Liaison Office in South Africa, Mr Michael PY Hsu for his support.
Happy New Year and may Buddha bless all!
