Brenda, the pastor and founder of the crèche, contacted BLIA’s Johannesburg chapter and asked for urgent assistance as the orphanage, which cares for between 50 and 60 children, was running out of food. The children vary in age, from about age one to approximately age five.
Several BLIA members assisted in handing over sugar, flour, rice, salt, oil, jam and bread, even though it was pouring with rain.
The children and their nannies were delighted. Everybody sang together the nursery songs in both Chinese and English, including ‘Buddha’s Light shine all over you’. “It was always quite emotional to see so many innocent and lovely but helpless children”, said Dumann.
Jane Tsai also brought many sweets for the children to enjoy.
