The 3rd May 2013 was a day of jubilation and celebration at Nan Hua Academy, as 51 young students from disadvantaged communities received their MOS (Microsoft Office Specialist) certificates, as well as Pastel Accounting certificates. It was a day filled with joy, as most of the graduates admitted they never thought that one day they will be able to reach this milestone.
The Nan Hua Academy is quite unique, because it is the only professional skills institution in Gauteng where students are not paying study fees at all. The academy was opened in 2010 in order to address the issue of shortage of computer skills in the country.
The graduates, accompanied by their family & friends, had the privilege of being addressed by Venerable Hui Fang, the director and abbot of Nan Hua Temple. He encouraged the graduates to look for the many opportunities which the IT course will open for them. He also reminded the graduates about new courses which are coming up at NHA, i.e. Pastel Payroll and Microsoft Technology Associates. The courses will not only provide much needed work experience, but also open up a career in Human Resources.
Also present at the graduation was BLIA Jhb Chapter Chairwoman, Ms Da Man Yin, who brought with her ten sponsors, to witness how effectively their donations are being utilized. She congratulated and applauded the graduates for their achievement, and emphasized the need for hard work in achieving success in life.
Graduates thanked the Nan Hua Temple for this opportunity, and many said that without these courses most of them would have a limited chance of achieving success in life. They said the knowledge they received at NHA will be with them for life… They also said that they hope the sponsors will continue to support Nan Hua Academy for many more years to come, so that many other people from disadvantaged backgrounds will have a better opportunity to succeed in life.
