FGS Nan Hua Temple, together with members of the Buddhist Light International Association (BLIA), has donated 70 wheelchairs and 20 walkers to The Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital in Gauteng.
This public hospital was in serious need of new wheelchairs and walkers as it deals with 7 000 outpatients per day and more than 13 000 people booking in and out on a daily basis.
Dr Tiego Ephraim (Barney) Selebano is the hospitals CEO and welcomed the Abbott of FGS Nan Hua Temple, Venerable Hui Fang, as well as BLIA Johannesburg’s chairlady, Dumann Ying, several benefactors, fellow BLIA members and some Masters and staff of Nan Hua Temple.
The Abbott, Ven Hui Fang, explained that he saw the need for the wheelchair and walker donation when he had to bring a friend to the hospital. As they were queuing for quite a while, they couldn’t help but notice the shortage of equipment.
Dr Selebano, CEO, warmly thanked Nan Hua Temple and its benefactors for the generous donation and explained that it couldn’t have come at a better time as their current wheelchair supply is very old and in need of replacement. Dr Selebano furthermore asked the Nan Hua and BLIA team to walk through the hospital and spread the light of The Buddha so that all patients, hospital staff and doctors could benefit from the positive energy.
