On a very cold Saturday, 9 June 2012, the monks, nuns, staff, Buddhist Light International Association’s (BLIA) volunteers and various benefactors of Nan Hua Temple, situated in Bronkhorstspruit, set off to Coronation Park, an informal settlement outside Witbank, Mpumalanga. The Group was joined by the Representative of Taipei Liaison Office in South Africa, Mr Michael PY Hsu, the South African Police Service (SAPS) and Councillors Enisa, Abby and Patrick. Councillor Patrick Mashiane was also the programme director for the event. Speaking at the event, Mr Huang, one of the benefactors, said that the group was assisting the people of Coronation Park because of their need, and that all people were equally created, that underneath our skin, we were all of the same colour. Another benefactor of Nan Hua Temple and the winter donations, Mrs Sherry Chen, said that she hoped that the humble donation would make a difference, even if it’s a small one, to the people of Coronation Park. The Durban division of BLIA (Buddha’s Light International Association) recently celebrated the birthday of the Great Compassionate Bodhisattva by reaching out with compassion to those in need in their area.
