Fo Guang Shan Nan Hua Temple held its annual Baby Blessing ceremony on 1 January 2012.
Every parent has hopes and aspirations that their child will grow in good health, physically and mentally; that they will live a meaning and fulfilling life; that they will develop a kind and loving heart and that they will become wise and blessed with good fortune. Parents from all races brought their babies and children to be blessed by the Abbott and receive a spiritual stimulus for their lives ahead. Pregnant women also came to receive a blessing for their unborn.

The Baby Blessing ceremony started off with several chanting procedures of which the chanting of the Incense Anthem was first, followed by the chanting of Homage to our Teacher, Sakyamuni Buddha, the Heart Sutra and a Prayer for the New Born. The chanting of the Heart Mantra of Manjusri and the Transfer of Merits completed the chanting events.
The Abbott of Nan Hua Temple, Venerable Hui Fang, read a prayer for transferring the blessing, wisdom and protection of the Great Compassionate Buddha to each baby, child and unborn baby present.
The ceremony was concluded with the Abbott blessing each baby, child and pregnant woman with Holy Water. The Abbott was assisted by two Venerable Masters who gave a little bracelet to each person blessed. Each child also received a Blessing certificate.
The Ceremony was followed by a vegetarian meal served at Nan Hua guest house.
